Mekong Delta travel questions

Where is the Mekong Delta?
In southern Vietnam, southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. The Mekong arrives from Cambodia in two branches, splits again and flows into the South China Sea. The delta stretches from the Cambodian border, around Chau Doc, to the coast.
Where can you see a floating market in the Mekong Delta?
At Cai Rang, 6 km from Can Tho: the largest still running, though much shrunk, from more than 400 boats in the 1990s to a few dozen or a couple of hundred depending on the source. Trading runs from about 5:30 to 8 a.m. Phong Dien, smaller, is 45 minutes to an hour from Can Tho. The market at Cai Be disappeared in 2021.
Can you visit the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City in a day?
Yes for My Tho and Ben Tre, two hours away: tours leave around 7:30 a.m. and return around 5 p.m. Not for the Cai Rang floating market: it winds down around 8 a.m. and Can Tho is 3 to 4 hours away by bus. Plan at least one night there.
Can you travel from Vietnam to Cambodia by river?
Yes: boats run up from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh, crossing the border at Vinh Xuong. The Hang Chau speedboat leaves at 7 a.m. from the Victoria hotel in Chau Doc, for 1,640,000 dong, and takes about 6.5 hours.
Do you need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. US travelers need an e-Visa, applied for online before departure: $25 for a single entry or $50 for multiple entries, for up to 90 days.
